Bettie Mae Page (born Betty Mae Page April 22, 1923 in Nashville, Tennessee) is a former American model who became famous in the 1950s for her fetish modeling and pin-up photos. While she faded into obscurity in the 1960s after her conversion to Christianity, she experienced a resurgence of popularity in the 1980s and now has a significant cult following.

Actress and singer Garland was born Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Garland, the star of many classic musical films, was known for her tremendous talent and troubled life. The daughter of vaudeville professionals, she started her stage career as a child.

TLBSPEDIA: ISAAC ASIMOV

Isaac Asimov was born Isaak Yudovick Ozimov on January 2, 1920, in Petrovichi, Russia, to Anna Rachel Berman and Judah Ozimov. The family immigrated to the United States when Asimov was a toddler, settling into the East New York section of Brooklyn. (Around this time, the family name was changed to Asimov.)

THE BEAUTIFUL EDGAR DEGAS PAINTINGS

Edgar Degas was a French artist famous for his paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings. He is especially identified with the subject of dance; more than half of his works depict dancers. He is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, although he rejected the term, preferring to be called a realist. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of his death, here are some of his most beautiful and important artworks:

TLBSPEDIA: DEAN MARTIN

Actor and singer Dean Martin was born Dino Paul Crocetti in Steubenville, Ohio on June 7 1917. Martin was the youngest of two sons, the oldest being Bill Crocetti, born to Italian immigrants. He attended Grant Elementary School in Steubenville, Ohio, and took up the drums as a hobby as a teenager.

After dropping out of Steubenville High School in the 10h grade, Martin worked odd jobs, including a part-time job as an amateur welterweight boxer under the name “Kid Crochet.” Martin also dabbled in illegal activities, including driving liquor across state lines during prohibition, selling lottery tickets, acting as a bookie and working as a card dealer and croupier in local gambling joints.

TLBSPEDIA: JOHN F. KENNEDY

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts. Both the Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys were wealthy and prominent Irish Catholic Boston families. Kennedy’s paternal grandfather, P.J. Kennedy, was a wealthy banker and liquor trader, and his maternal grandfather, John E. Fitzgerald, nicknamed “Honey Fitz,” was a skilled politician who served as a congressman and as the mayor of Boston. Kennedy’s mother, Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald, was a Boston debutante, and his father, Joseph Kennedy Sr., was a successful banker who made a fortune on the stock market after World War I. Joe Kennedy Sr. went on to a government career as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission and as an ambassador to Great Britain.

TLBSPEDIA: GREGORY PECK

Born on April 5 1916 in La Jolla, California, Gregory Peck studied pre-med at the University of California, Berkeley. He began acting while at UC, and soon after, moved to New York to further his interest. Peck eventually won an Oscar for his portrayal of Atticus Finch in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’. He also acted in Audrey Hepburn’s debut in ‘Roman Holiday’.

One of the most famous actors from the 40’s to the 60’s, Gregory Peck grew up in La Jolla, California, raised by parents Bernice Mae and Gregory Pearl Peck. Following high school, Peck attended military school and San Diego State College, and then enrolled in the pre-med program at the University of California, Berkeley. There, he became interested in acting, and after graduating from UC, he headed to New York City to continue studying the artform.
